Nottingham score 57/14/2023 ![]() ![]() "It was a difficult experience the cup final because we were desperate to win but the players have responded brilliantly. "Alexander Isak took our last penalty and scored it really well Kieran Trippier is an incredible penalty taker but Alex is our designated taker and he took it really well. "I saw the arm go up and the ball hit the arm for me that is a stonewall penalty. The character shown in the group was fantastic. "There was a spell where we lost our way and got a bit emotional the goal rocked us apart from that we created chances. "Whenever you come back it is a satisfying feeling and to score that late is another boost i think today was always going to be difficult but i think we deserved it. Apart from that we were the dominant team didn't deserve to go behind but delighted to win it is a big three points. I think there was a spell where we lost control in the first half. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "There was a lot in that game it was action packed. "The referee wanted us to speak to our teams at half-time just to say to behave a little bit better on the pitch. It is in our hands and we have to back ourselves to do better. We are in a position with a lot of other clubs where after the break we have to back ourselves and try to finish in that group that is higher than the bottom three. Nothing can be solves tonight, it is something we will talk about when we get back together as a group. We go into an international break now and that makes it doubly worse. ![]() "It is never the best time to reflect, straight after the game. Got the territory, played some good football and mixed it up well. See the half out so we can sort a few things. I am disappointed with the timing of the first goal. "We have given three penalties away in the last three games and all of them have been self-inflicted. It was a strange performance from the ref but we have to look at ourselves first. It is something we have to look at ourselves on because we made some poor football decisions. The timing of the goals - in injury time in the first half and then obviously in the second. I am just disappointed with our own decisions around the goals. We came up against a really good team and we knew it would be like that, possibly. Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is always the worst way to lose, in the last couple of minutes. ![]()
